Republic 8 Reales 1863 Pi-FC VF35 NGC, San Luis Potosi mint, KM377.12, DP-Pi51 ("Excessively rare"). Evenly worn and free of major defects with all main details still sharp, thus pleasant for the grade. A wholesome and undamaged example of this excessively rare date/assayer - 6 examples of which are known to the cataloguer, superior to the DP plate coin and among the very finest since with no chopmarks, thus very desirable as such. The last public offering of this key issue noted by the cataloguer is the McCormick coin, graded Fine, which sold for $4,050 in Ponterio's 9/2007 auction. From the FoxLair Collection
