Maximilian Peso 1866-Mo MS65 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM388.1. An undeniable Gem peso from this ephemeral period, exceptionally presented throughout with a sharp strike that fully renders Maximilian's hair as well as the often incomplete shield on the reverse. Obviously long cared for, the surfaces are toned throughout, mostly in pale gray color, with some instances of olive and gold appearing mostly around the peripheral lettering. Beneath the tone, very few marks are observed and shimmering luster easily peeks through and stimulates the eye. Unsurpassed in grade at NGC or PCGS, this coin should undoubtedly excite the Mexican specialist, but should also attract attention from the collector of elite world crowns; expect strong competition for this one!
