Tarentum. Circa 490-480 BC. Nomos (Silver, 18mm, 18.18 g 9). ΤΑΡΑΣ Hippocamp to right; below, scallop; border of rays. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to right, his left arm outstretched with the palm of his hand upwards, and holding an octopus in his right; cable border. Fischer-Bossert 52 a (this coin, illustrated on pl. 3). HN III 827. Vlasto 123 (this coin). Attractive and toned. Some minor marks under the toning, otherwise, good very fine.
