Tarentum. Circa 280-272 BC. Stater (Silver, 19mm, 6.54 g 7), Phy..., Sodamos and Gu... The Dioscouri (or two ephebes), nude but for their cloaks, riding horses galloping to left; above, monogram of ΦΥ; below, ΣΩΔ-Α-Μ-Ο-Σ. Rev. TA-ΡAΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding on dolphin to left; holding, in his right hand, Nike crowning him and, in his left, two spears and a shield ornamented with a hippocamp; below, waves; to left, ΓΥ. HN III 1011. Vlasto 773 ff. Beautifully toned and very well-centered. Die break on the obverse and a number of scratches under the toning on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
