The Dutch Republic. Plaquettepenning, or Hollow medal (Silver, 56mm, 60.39 g 12), on Maurice of Orange's victory at Bergen op Zoom in 1622, by Pieter van Abeele, with his signature on the obverse, and his silver mark on the edge, Amsterdam, undated but c. 1654-1658. MAVRITIO D.G.PRINC.AVRAI.COMM.NASS.EC Bare-headed and armored bust of Maurice, three-quarter facing, turned slightly to the right; below, PVA.F. Rev. MAVRICI AVXILIVM PRÆSTANS VICTORIA BERGIS. Maurice on horse rearing to the left; behind, view of Bergen. Frederiks 6/6a. Van Loon II, p. 149, i (1622). Bright and attractive. Extremely fine.
