BRITISH COINS, Charles I, Obsidional Coinage, Pontefract besieged, Silver Shilling, 1648, on ocatgonal shaped flan, in the name of Charles II after the death of his father, Latin inscription and date in three lines, crown above, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding, rev inverted die axis, castle gateway with small flag at top P and C either side of flag, OBS vertical upwards to left, cannon to right, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding, 4.82g (Brooker 1235; N 2649; S 3151). Well struck, some light raised flan flaws on the reverse but with excellent detail on castle gateway, good very fine to about extremely fine and toned, rare so well preserved.

The reverse inscription translates to "God has given this after the death of the Father for the Son"
