THE ALFRED FRANKLIN COLLECTION OF ANCIENT COINS, ROMAN GOLD, Leo I (AD 457-474), Gold Solidus, mint of Constantinople, struck AD 462 or 466, D N LEO PE-RPET AVG, helmeted, pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust facing, slightly inclined to right, holding a spear in right hand, over left arm an ornamented shield depicting a horseman riding down his enemy, rev VICTORI-A AVGGG E, Victory standing left, supporting a long jewelled cross, star in right field, CONOB in exergue, 4.49g, 6h (RIC 605; Depeyrot 93/1). A little softly struck on the obverse, otherwise good very fine.
