THE COLLECTION OF A CLASSICIST, ANCIENT COINS, Anonymous (temp. Domitian to Antoninus Pius), Æ Quadrans, veiled head of a child facing right, rev S C within a wreath of flowers, 3.22g, 12h (RIC 35; C 30). Attractive green patina, nearly extremely fine.
The identity of the head on the obverse of this issue has been a matter for debate. Cohen suggested that it might be that of Annius Verus, the son of Marcus Aurelius, whereas Van Heesch in Studia Paulo Naster Oblata I, pp.193-197 suggested that the different bust types in the series might represent the four seasons, the above example being that of Winter.

Estimate: £150-200
