Guatemala, 1 peso, 1888, encapsulated NGC MS 62 with WINGS gold sticker, tied for finest known in NGC census. Attractively lightly toned with underlying luster and nice strike, very similar to the Lissner example, which sold for $3,932. Very few full-size crowns were struck locally due to the economic situation of the 1880s, and in fact only a few thousand pieces were made of all the types in 1888-1893. The known chain of ownership of this specimen starts with the 1973 Jess Peters sale and goes through a couple influential collectors (Alex Safie and Roberto Ulloa) prior to acquisition by our consignor. Pedigreed to the Jess Peters 1973 Higgins auction.
Estimate: $2500 - 3750
