Egypt, Institut d'Egypt, 150th Anniversary, Bronze Medal, 1948, by Henri Dropsy (1885-1969), conjoined busts right of Kings Farouk and Fuad, both wearing Fezzes, rev dates of the various forms of the Institute from 1798, ancient Egyptian motif above, Arabic legend below, 58mm, struck in Paris (Dropsy [1964], 202). Extremely fine with chocolate brown coloration.
The Institut d'Égypte was a learned academy originally formed by Napoleon during his Egyptian campaign. The Institut was burnt down on 17 December 2011 during the Revolution that had started the previous January. It is understood that Sheikh Sultan al Quassimi, Governor of the Emirate of Sharjah is to fund the the reconstruction of the building. Beautiful Art Deco style medal from; The Alexandria Collection.
