MILITARY MEDALS, Awards for Gallantry and Distinguished Service, A COPY VICTORIA CROSS, suspension engraved (Pte G. Ravenhill 2nd Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers), reverse centre engraved (15th Dec 1899), contained in old leather case, ribbon with two pronged wearing pin. Polished, about very fine.
Private George Ravenhill, 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, was awarded the Victoria Cross for the Battle of Colenso, 15 December 1900. When the guns of the 14th and 66th Batteries RFA had to be abandoned, owing to the awful fire concentrated upon them by the Boers, Private Ravenhill was one of the volunteers who attempted to save the guns.
His Victoria Cross was forfeited in 1908 after he was convicted of stealing iron from his employers. Sold with copy research and a copy portrait photograph
