Robert McLeod Chapman was born 23 June 1887 in Morningside, Edinburgh, he attested for the Queen's Westminster Rifles on 8 November 1904 transferring to the Reserve 1 April 1912, he was mobilised on 6 August 1914 and landed in France with the 1/16th Battalion London Regiment on 1 November 1914. He was Commissioned on 25 September 1915 to the 14th (Service) Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Demobilised 6 February 1919.
