For great gallantry and ability during the forcing of the Sambre-Oise Canal 4 November 1918, and subsequent operations which resulted in the capture of Groise and Mezieres. Throughout the operation he directed and supervised the work of the sections, and his untiring energy was largely responsible for the excellent work done by the Stokes mortars.
