Wearmouth, RAFVR 576 Squadron, comprising Distinguished Flying Cross, officially dated (1944); 1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star with France & Germany clasp; 1939-45 Defence Medal; 1939-45 War Medal, all un-named as issued, DFC in Royal Mint case of issue. DFC as issued, the stars toned, very fine, mounted for wear with corresponding miniatures. (10)

Acting Flying Officer Charles Gilroy WEARMOUTH (174528) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No. 576 Squadron (Pilot; sorties 34; flying hours 187.)
Flying Officer Wearmouth has completed a most successful tour of operations and has on all occasions displayed courage, skill and determination of the highest order. His magnificent leadership and coolness under fire have set an outstanding example to the whole of the Squadron. On one occasion, when his aircraft was attacked by an enemy night fighter, his skilful evasive tactics, combined with his excellent crew co-operation, resulted in the destruction of a Messerschmitt 109. Another time, Flying Officer Wearmouth accomplished a diversionary attack in the Sens area while the main force attacked Orleans.
Sold with Flight Lieutenant Wearmouth's two Pilots Flying Log Books (Form 414) covering his Flying Training with No.15 Elementary Flying Training School commencing 15 September 1942 to his last flight on 31 July 1946.

5th June 1944 15th Operation as Pilot Lancaster "Q" – St Martin De V. – Gun Battery – 10/10ths cloud – Full Moon – Invasion took place during night.
16th June 1944 17th Operation as Pilot Lancaster "Q"- Domelager – Near Abbeville – supply depot for pilotless aircraft – 10/10ths cloud no fighters or FLAK over France
2nd July 1944 22nd Operation as Pilot Lancaster "Q" – Sens – Spoof Attack to draw fighters from 1 Group Target on Marshalling Yards at Orleans – only aircraft on this spoof – no FLAK or fighters
Return from Special Duties Flight to 576 Squadron R.A.F. Elsham Wolds – Linc
16th August 1944 30th Operation as Pilot Lancaster "J" – Pomeranian Bay – Mining Stooge, three runs to get mines down – moderate FLAK – Rear Gunner F/S Graham shot down single engine fighter – went down in flames.
