Sold with copy Muster Roll for HMS Edinburgh; Landsman James Batridge
On 3 November 1840 HMS Edinburgh took station off the South Battery at 1.00pm, in line of battle with the rest of the fleet. At 2.17pm a fort opened fire on HMS Castor and HMS Princess Charlotte, HMS Thunderer, HMS Powerful and HMS Bellerphon replied. At 2.25pm a shell exploded on one of HMS Edinburgh's quarterdeck carronades, killing four seamen and injuring several others, including the Master and two Officers. Five minutes later HMS Edinburgh commenced firing on the forts which "were keeping up an intense fire on us". At 4pm a tremendous explosion came from the direction of the Citadel. Cheering was heard and the crew of the HMS Edinburgh cheered in turn. HMS Edinburgh ceased fire at sunset.

Estimate: £400-500
