MILITARY MEDALS, Campaign Medals & Groups, QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL, 1899-1902, 2nd type reverse, ghost dates, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (2403 Pte J. Haigh 2: R. Scots Fus), officially impressed. Good very fine, toned.
Joseph Haigh enlisted in the Royal Scots Fusiliers at Ayr on 21 August 1888. His age was given as 18 years and 9 months. He served with the 2nd Battalion throughout his service, at Home 20 August 1888 to 18 September 1890; East Indies 19 September 1890 to 16 February 1896; Home 17 February 1896 to 21 January 1899; South Africa 22 October 1899 to 19 August 1901 (Medal); Discharged 19 August 1901.
Confined 23 September 1893 and awaiting trial, tried by Regimental Court and convicted of breaking out of barracks and absenting himself – forfeit 1 Good Conduct Badge. Sold with copied Service Papers.
