Andronicus I, Comnenus September 1183 – 12 September 1185

Hyperpyron 1183-1185, AV 4.44 g. The Virgin, nimbate, enthroned facing, wearing pallium and maphorium; on her breast, head of the Infant Christ; in field, MHP ligate – ΘV. Rev. ANΔPONIKOC – Δ[εCΠOTHC] Christ standing on r., nimbate, and Andronicus, on l., standing facing; Christ wears pallium and colobium, holds Book of Gospels and crowns Andronicus who wears divitision, loros and sagion and holds labarum and globus cruciger. In field, IC – XC. DO 1. Sear 1983.
Rare. A metal flaw on obverse, otherwise good extremely fine
