Alexius III Angelus self-styled Comnenus, April 1195 – November 1203

Aspron trachy, 1195-1197, EL 4.14 g. [KE RO] – HΘE Christ facing on backless throne, nimbate, wearing pallium and colobium, raising r. hand in benediction and holding Book of Gospels in l.; in field, IC – XC. Rev. [AΛεZIωC ΔεCΠ KωNTANT] Alexius III, on l., wearing crown, divitision and loros, and St. Constantine, on r., in similar attire, both standing facing, each holding a cruciform sceptre and together holding labarum between them. Traces of double-striking on obverse, otherwise extremely fine
