Tetradrachm signed by Eukleidas circa 405-400, AR 17.26 g. Fast quadriga driven l. by chiton-clad charioteer, holding kentron and reins; above, Nike flying r. to crown him. In exergue, dolphin to l. Rev. ΣΥ [− Ρ − Α − ΚΟ] − ΣΙΩ − Ν Head of Arethusa l., hair bound with sphendone over which several tresses fly back. Around, four dolphins: two swimming l. downwards and two r., upwards. Very rare and possibly the finest specimen known of this issue of superb style, work of
one of the most celebrated Sicilian master-engravers. Struck on a very broad flan
and unusually complete. Wonderful old cabinet tone and about extremely fine
