PELOPONESSOS. ACHAIA. Patrai. Circa 35 B.C. AR hemidrachm. 1.96 gm. 15 mm. Damasias, son of Agesilaus, magistrate. Head of Aphrodite (as Cleopatra?) right wearing stephanos, earring, and necklace / ΔA MACIAC above Patrai monogram, all within laurel wreath. BCD Peloponnesos 525-8. Good Very Fine; good style; well centered and well struck. Cabinet toning with traces of iridescence. Purchased from Baldwins, 1980. Ex BCD with tags and photos. The head of Aphrodite on this issue is believed to be modeled on Cleopatra VII. This coin was probably issued in concert with Mark Antony's preparations for his war with Octavian. This example is exceptional for the type.
