WORLD COINS. FRANCE. Louis XVIII, 1815-24. Gold 20 Francs, 1815-R, London. 6.45 g. 21.5 mm. Mintage: 871,581. KM X# 1. In 1815 the British Government counterfeited the French Gold 20 Francs coin. They were made to pay troops stationed in France during the Napoleonic Wars. The British counterfeits has an 'R' mint mark and unusual reverse legend. Popular for its historic relevance, scarce in this high grade. Extremely fine.
