Great Britain. Halfpenny, 1717. S.3659. First 'dump' issue. Obverse, draped laureate bust of king right by Croker, GEORGIVS. REX. Reverse, Britannia seated left, date in exergue. This is normally a poorly made coin, but the detail (especially on the King's portrait) is exceptionally sharp, and resembles that of a proof. Superb surfaces on this early striking, and one of the best struck currency copper pieces of the era. Superior to the Basil Nicholson specimen (lot 169). Lustrous mint state. NGC graded MS-64 Brown. Estimated Value $1,500 - 1,750
