Great Britain. Accession Medal, 1830. Silver medal by W.Wyon for Queen Adelaide. Matte frosted surfaces. 67 mm diameter. BHM 1414. Eimer 1220. Obverse portrait of King right by Wyon after Chantrey. GUILELMO IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REGI F: D: Reverse, ADELAIDE REGINA CUDI JUSSIT MDCCCXXX. Edge plain. A beautifully well preserved mint state medal with accompanying glazed lunettes bound with a silver band. A stunning obverse portrait and very rare thus. Uncirculated.
* The glazed silver medals are believed to have been originally given as the personal gift of Queen Adelaide. According to Carlisle 'A Memoir of the life and works of William Wyon Esquire A.R.A. 1837' this medal was struck at the express command of Her Majesty to preserve a faithful portrait of the King, and it is only given by Her Majesty to those whom the Queen graciously condescends to honour.'.
