The Royal Institution of Great Britain was founded in 1799 in London, by the leading British scientists. It is devoted to scientific education and research. Sir Henry Hugh Hoare built the portico at Stourhead. T. Dimsdale believed to be Thomas Robert Dimsdale, 4th Baron Dimsdale (1796-1865), grandson of Thomas Dimsdale who discovered the technique of smallpox vaccination.
