WORLD COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, MEDALS BY SUBJECT, Gambling, John Lister, Copper Token for Halfcrown, 1792, by John Milton, shield of arms and date, rev I L cypher,plain edge (D&W 56); S Fiuri's Club, Copper Sixpence Tokens (2), 1792, by J Milton, SF monogram, 1 MAY 1792 – VI, rev ace of spades within crowned Garter and wreath, 22mm, on thick and thin flans (D&W 311/33; M-Guest 148/1189; Stainton, BNJ, 53, p.152). All much as struck, extremely fine with a little lustre, scarce. (3)
John Lister kept a gambling house at Norris Street on the Haymarket in London. In 1792 he was summoned to court for so doing and fined £200. D&W record that some of these tokens were produced as evidence at the trial. S Fiuri's gaming house was opened in Bury Street, St Mary Axe (London), 1 May 1792.
