Republic Sun Yat-sen "Austrian" Pattern Dollar Year 18 (1929) AU55 NGC, KM-Pn101, K-617, L&M-97, WS-0135-1. Reeded edge. A desirable pattern of the popular "Junk Dollar" design, conceived by the mint in Vienna, Austria and submitted as a proposed design along with other renderings by mints in the United States, England, Italy and Japan. Ultimately, this design was not adopted, but re-striking of the design at the Hangchow mint contributed to the relative availably (for a pattern) of this charming issue. The present piece, like many that are seen, displays moderately reflective fields, with golden accents on both sides. Light highpoint friction is present, but the overall appearance is rather pleasing.
