People's Republic gold Proof "Marco Polo" 500 Yuan (5 oz) 1993 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM81, Fr-86. Mintage of 100 pieces. A nearly flawless example of one of the lowest-mintage issues from the Chinese 500 Yuan series. Deeply mirrored fields contrast dramatically with thickly frosted devices. The edge of this piece is numbered 065 and the lot includes the original case of issue and the COA matching the coin's edge, #065.Although certainly exaggerated and in many of its claims disputed by modern historians, the book that was compiled of Marco Polo's tales of the Yuan Dynasty and the court of Kublai Khan was inarguably one of the first widely distributed writings in Europe to discuss Chinese culture.
