Straits Settlements
British Colony - Victoria 5 Cents 1871 MS62 PCGS, Royal mint, KM10, Pr-122. The first date of the type and well-known as a rarity, with Mint State survivors being particularly coveted given the wide-spread circulation that the denomination saw. The present example, an equal to the finest example we have offered, displays full originality, with strong luster beneath a light layer of golden patina. As the grade suggests, light handling is present, but no single mark deserves individual mention, ultimately giving this piece the eye-appeal of a finer grade. Unquestionably important thus, as finer offerings from this British-controlled area that consists of modern-day Singapore as well as the Malaysian territories of Penang, Dinding and Malacca are rarely encountered.
