A diligent task by our consignor in order to put this nice set together, with each note having a serial number that ends in "11." Pick 870 is easily the most valuable note of the Second Issue. The piece in this lot is a very appealing example of the highest denomination of this issue and it grades Choice Very Fine 35 Net, repaired. At the time this note was current, the 10 Yuan represented around a third of the monthly wage of a skilled technical worker, or around three months wages for a laborer. The economic turmoil during the following decades resulted in the mass redemption of the 10 Yuan note and this accounts for their rarity today. The last Pick 870 that crossed our auction block was a PCGS Apparent VF 35, mounted example which realized $28,200 in April 2014. The other 14 Pick numbers in this lot grade: 860a Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ; 861a About Uncirculated 50; 862a Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ, with an as made paper wrinkle; 863 Choice About Unc 58 EPQ; 864 Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ; 865a Choice Uncirculated 64; 865b About Uncirculated 53 EPQ; 866 About Uncirculated 55; 867 Extremely Fine 40 Net, repaired; 868 Very Fine 30 Net, repaired; 869a Extremely Fine 40, retouched; 871 About Uncirculated 55; 872 Choice Extremely Fine 45 Net, repaired; and 872a Extremely Fine 40 Net, tear, which is small.
