*Workshop of Francesco Fanelli (1577 – after 1658), The Holy Family with Saints, high relief bronze plaquette, probably Genoa, first quarter of 17th century, 178mm x 137mm (Scaglia XIII.9), an extremely fine contemporary cast in high relief, the reverse showing numerous casting sprues, file marks on edges suggesting that at some point it was set into a frame Another example in gilt-bronze was sold in these rooms, 18 April 2002, lot 574. This also showed a similar reverse with multiple sprues. The saint on the right has been identified as St. George, the patron saint of Genoa and this would lend credence to an origin in that city.
