Elis. Olympia AR Stater, ca. 415-385 BC. Temple mint of Hera. 12.04 gms. Possibly issued for the 95th Olympiad, 400 BC. Head of Hera right, her hair hanging in ringlets, wearing stephane adorned with palmettes with the letters H-P-A interspersed, rev. F-A flanking thunderbolt within olive wreath. Seltman Temple 275, SNG Copenhagen 381, BMC 63. This type comes from the earliest issues of the Olympian Hera mint which unlike the Olympian Zeus mint was active for only a short time. Very Fine.
