ISLANDS off THRACE, Thasos. Circa 525-500 BC. 'Stater' (Billon, 22mm, 13.61 g), a curious, thick coin, perhaps struck as a trial piece in off-metal. Satyr, moving to right, holding a nymph who vaguely protests in his arms Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Good fine.
From a European collection, formed before 2005.
This could be an imitation, but why anyone would want to make such a large and heavy imitiation is nothing if not mysterious
