Sicily, Uncertain Sicilian Mint, Hemiobol or Hemilitra, end of 5th-4th cent. BC; AR (g 0,36; mm 9; h -); Octopus, Rv. Sun-burst of 16 rays. HNItaly -; Buceti -; SNG Copenhagen -; SNG ANS -; SNG Budapest -; SNG München -.
Unpublished in the standard references, cabinet tone, extremely fine.
We think to attribute this beautiful specimen to an uncertain Sicilian mint in view of the particular style. The obverse shows stylistic affinities with the elegant octopus of Syracuse hemilitron; however, the reverse sun-burst with 16 rays resembling to the typical iconography of Campanian mercenaries in Sicily, adopted for example in the Tauromenion bronze issue.
