Geneva. City gold Ducat 1654-AHB AU58 PCGS, KM42, Fr-257, HMZ-2311j. Augustin Hurtebinet as mintmaster. An extremely rare type, today thought to exist in numbers as few as three, with the present example, when it last sold in 2004, having been cataloged as, "the first appearance of the date on the market to our knowledge" by Numismatica Genevensis. Since that time, we've only noted one other appearance, that coming in a 2007 LHS Numismatik auction. This example, visibly finer than that example, exhibits lustrous surfaces and excellent remaining detail, with only a touch minor softness near the edges. Adding the the allure, this date is unpriced in HMZ and listed as "Very Rare" in Friedberg.Ex. Numismatica Genevensis (Auction 3, 11/2004).From the Redwood Collection of Swiss Coins
