Switzerland
Zurich. City gold Ducat 1745 MS64 NGC, KM140, Fr-486a, HMZ-21161cc. A charming coin, highly lustrous and choice, with little patches of die-rust and tiny abrasions--most surely from the mint itself when coins were batched after striking--and all telltale signs of the manufacturing process of the mid 18th century. This selection appears close to superb, showing a bold striking of the rampant lion, but due to the reusing of dies, the last digit in the date is blundered, having been cut in over various digits. A tremendous example, endlessly sharp and with unstoppable eye appeal. From the Redwood Collection of Swiss Coins
