Switzerland
Confederation 5 Francs 1928-B MS63 NGC, Bern mint, KM38, Dav-394, HMZ-2-1199g, Divo-380. Mintage: 24,000. The final date of the type and the lowest mintage by far with a survival rate, by most estimations thought to be somewhere between 50 and 100 examples, that suggests mass attrition from melting. As such, this date is widely known as one of the great 20th century Swiss rarities; when paired with its design, a simple and elegant execution that is the product of a competition by Swiss artists in 1919, it's an absolute numismatic classic. While cabinet-saved Specimens of the present date exist (see next lot), the present example is just about as nice as one is bound to find for a circulation issue (it's currently the finest example graded by NGC or PCGS). The design remains bold and original shimmer enlivens the fields, with a tick here and there defining the grade. On both sides, complimentary tone in rich antique-gold, purple and cobalt-blue hue hugs portions of the raised surfaces producing an overall appearance that is rather sublime. For the advanced collector of Swiss coinage, or the lover of world crown-sized rarities, a coin that should be hard to resist...and an opportunity that one shouldn't let pass! From the Redwood Collection of Swiss Coins

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
