Philip V 1/2 Real 1732-Mo XF Details (Holed, Scratched) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM65 ("Rare"). Struck on an unusually large flan and quite sharp for this issue with full inscriptions on the pillars, a neat piercing at 12 o'clock and pin scratches to the right of the shield accounting for the designation. The iconic and very rare first date of the type, altogether missing in the Gerber, Norweb and Patterson groups and nearly always found in wretched condition (note that no examples are currently listed in NGC's census). The present example, still attractive despite the noted defects, is in fact better detailed than any of the three (!) specimens now impounded in the Banco de Mexico collection and is superior to the D. Gray example (Good Details, (Scratched) NGC, Stack's Bowers 10/2014, lot 435 for $1,800). It remains eminently collectible as such. From the Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins, Part III
