Philip V 4 Reales 1733 MX/XM-MF MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM94. Lightly toned Uncirculated with full underlying luster, only faint surface marks and a superbly defined and well centered strike on an impressively large flan. One of only three examples of this iconic one-year issue with the MX mintmark in high grade traced by the cataloguer: the others are the ex F. C. C. Boyd coin (Superior 8/1975, lot 1956) and the E. Ortiz specimen (SBC 9/1991, lot 158), one of which must correspond to the MS63 entry of the issue in NGC's census. Based on its superb appearance, it is hard to imagine that the present coin is not the equal of the aforementioned ex. Boyd and ex. Ortiz examples in eye-appeal. In fact, while a few coins in the Mexican Colonial milled series will surpass its monetary value, it is unlikely that many of those are to match its significance and desirability: combining rarity, state of preservation, significance as a one-year only type and a superb pedigree, it is safe to say that the present coin will be awarded a very special place in the next collector's holdings. Very rare in any grade, immensely desirable in this incredible preservation and definitely one of the landmarks of the Rudman collection. For comparison purposes, the cataloguer also notes the representatives of this type in the Patterson (lot 49, and one of the cover coins of that catalog!) and Gerber (lot 169) groups: while "only" an XF and a previously mounted coin respectively, they were still granted a highlighted spot and included in the special color section of those catalogs. Ex. Norweb Collection (Christie's Dallas 5/1985, lot 191).From the Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins, Part III

Estimate: 18000-24000 USD
