MACEDON. Acanthus. Ca. 440-380 BC. AR tetradrachm (27mm, 14.11 gm, 9h). Lion springing right onto back of bull, digging teeth into bull's hindquarters, bull's head thrown back, forelegs collapsing to ground line, leaping dolphin right in exergue, all within dotted linear circle / AKA-N-ΘIO-N in shallow incuse band around quadripartite square, the quarters raised in pyramidal form and granulated. Cf. Desneux 156 (dolphin left). Jameson 1937. Very rare variety, perfectly centered on a broad, medallic flan. NGC XF 5/5 - 4/5.
