NGC AU★ 5/5 - 4/5.Ex Shoshana Collection Part II (Heritage 3018, 5 September 2012), lot 20123 (realized $65,725). Production of silver coins at the Jerusalem Temple dropped sharply in the fourth year, when the Jewish War against Rome entered its terminal phase and supplies of precious metal dried up. While the number of recorded specimens for the first three years number in the hundreds, only 40 shekels are known from Year 4. The Shoshana Collection, the largest and most comprehensive collection of Judean coins ever brought to market, included three specimens from the fourth year numbering among the finest surviving examples, of which arguably the best is offered here.
