Republic gold Independence Centennial Commemorative Medal 1916 MS62 NGC, Engraved by Constante Rossi (incorrectly referred to as Rosse on the insert). Lightly toned Uncirculated with the expected mild handling marks at this level, and attractive rims. The Congress of Tucuman was held between March 24 and July 9 of 1816 with 33 attending deputies from the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata and concluded with the declaration of Independence for the aformenetioned provinces. This handsome and massive medal in the Art Nouveau style is only scarce in copper or silver but very rare in gold with 5 known to the cataloguer. A singularly impressive of this rare commemorative medal, certainly among the very finest extant. Ex. Lawrence Adams Collection
