Victoria gold Sovereign 1856-SYDNEY AU50 PCGS, Sydney mint, KM2. A mildly-worn example of this fleeting, two-year series, noted as the first Sovereigns struck for circulation at the Sydney mint, featuring the filet head of Victoria and pale-gold surfaces that are host to a number of minor handling marks that are regularly associated with the type. The SCWC lists a price of $16,000 at the XF level, and a study of recent auction results shows that while this issue is somewhat common in lesser, circulated qualities, it becomes increasingly scarcer in grades that approach Mint State. A worthy representative of the issue, still very desirable in this level of preservation.
