João V gold 12800 Reis 1727-B AU55 NGC, Bahia mint, KM141, Russo-85. 1 sup st /sup shield type and usual "serrilha de cordao" or "flor de lyz" milled edge. Sharply struck with substantial mint luster, light high-point wear and a few scattered handling marks, all within the confines of the assigned grade. Minor adjustment marks below the bust do not affect this example good eye-appeal. A rare type in any condition, very desirable in this technical designation with a single finer example (certified AU58) currently listed in NGC's census. The RLM specimen of this date, certified XF Details by NGC, commanded a $15,000 hammer (Heritage Auctions 4/2013, lot 23189).
