Newfoundland. Victoria gold Specimen 2 Dollars 1872 SP65 PCGS, London mint, KM5. Reeded Edge. A stunning Gem of this extremely rare gold Canadian presentation piece of which we've sold two examples of the type in the past (the last in 2005) and likely no more than a half dozen or so are extant. The present example, entirely high-end for the grade, is a true pleasure to behold, the surfaces displaying vibrant, rich orange-gold color with a showcase of outstanding, uncompromised reflectivity in the fields. A strong strike emboldens the design to pinpoint crispness, and Victoria's portrait in particular, with its delicate cameo-producing frost, enchants the eye. An undeniable jewel through and through and considering the Newfie $2s status as the highest circulating denomination in Victorian Canada, a coin that will surely be targeted by the specialist as an item that belongs on the highest tier of significance in 19th century Canadian coinage.

Estimate: 35000-45000 USD
