D N AISTVLF REX (S horizontal), monogram / SCS IIIIII, St. Michael standing left, holding long cross and round shield; cross between legs. Bernareggi 144; BMC Vandals p. 147; MEC 1, –. VF, toned, a couple of flan splits and striking perforations, scratches under tone, wrinkled flan. Extremely rare. COIN SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS.

The monogram of CRX or DRX has been variously interpreted: 1) Charlemagne Rex, struck in 754 to recognize the suzerainty of the king of the Franks (Gariel); 2) Christianus Rex (Wroth); 3) Dominus noster Rex (Bernareggi).
