EGYPT. 500 Piastres, AH 1340 (1922). British Royal Mint. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder.
Fr-25; KM-342. The single finest graded mint state example at PCGS and NGC. Upon the end of the British Protectorate in February of 1922, Fuad ascended the throne as the Sultanate of Egypt and immediately took the title of King Fuad. The gold coinage issued that year with Fuad's bust prominently displayed and surrounded by vast areas of open field, has long been considered one of the most impressive obverse coinage designs struck anywhere in the world in the first half of the 20th century. When paging through a Krause catalog for the first time, it is a coin even the most novice collector stops to look at, to admire, and to contemplate the joys of owning such an incredible coin. The piece offered here fulfills even the most optimistic yearnings of collectors drawn to the piece. Nearly full prooflike fields with liquid qualities and undulating deep mirrors surround a nearly unimprovable portrait. The fez atop Fuad's head is free of significant abrasions and displays a sharp well defined line across the bottom. The somewhat cherubic character of the king's facial features convey a highly accurate portrayal of the king's appearance at the time this magnificent piece was struck. The reverse shares similar qualities, with a dual Arabic and Western date, and crisp jubilant Arabic calligraphy dominating the central design. A heavy piece with loads of flash and luster, in an exceptional state of preservation, and easily destined to become one of the most imposing coins in the collection it joins. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder.

Estimate: $8000.00- $10000.00
