FRANCE. Gold (Gilt Silver) 1924 Paris Olympics First Place Winner's Medal, 1924. MINT STATE.
55.1 mm; 78.75 gms. Gad-1. By Andre Rivaud. Obv. Nude athlete helping another to his feet above the Olympic Rings; Reverse: An assortment of sporting equipment surrounds legend: VIIIeme / OLYMPIADE / PARIS / 1924. Struck by the Paris Mint. Edgemark: (Cornucopia) 2 ARGENT. Both sides of the medal show Rivaud's signature style of using radiating lines to highlight his images. This was an especially rewarding year for American athletes who took home 45 Gold Medals. Of note at this Olympiad was the star of the games, American Johnny Weissmuller, later to gain fame as Tarzan in the movies (he won 3 Gold Medals that year) and John Kelly, who also won 3 Gold Medals, and later was the father of Actress Grace Kelly, who would become Princess Grace Rainier of Monaco. Still housed in a fitted deep green leather hinged case with green silk and velour interior. Warm bronze-gold patina with no handling wear or marks and straight preserved rims. MINT STATE.
