GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. 6 Taler, 1666-HS. Augustus II (1634-66). NGC EF Details--Mount Removed, Cleaned.
Dav-LS82; KM-492. VERY RARE. Struck to commemorate Augustus II's 88th birthday. With the denomination "6" punched on the reverse. Well struck given the piece's massive size. Decent to excellent detail throughout, particularly on the reverse with its pantheon of heraldic arms. Small light scattered contact marks, mostly confined to the obverse which probably occurred while it was mounted and displayed. The mounting and its removal were done with care as no major marks or evidence remain. Cleaned long ago, with the surfaces now nicely retoned and exhibiting golden and blue toning around devices. A very impressive multiple Taler that is sure to enhance the collection it enters. NGC EF Details--Mount Removed, Cleaned.
Estimate: $5000.00- $7000.00
