GERMANY. Saxe-Old-Gotha. 2 Taler, 1626-WA. Saalfield Mint. Johann Casimir & Johann Ernst II (1572-1633). NGC MS-63.
Dav-LS413; KM-99; Schnee-195. A very impressive multiple Taler with a striking equestrian portrait of Johann Casimir. More evenly struck than other large format pieces seen from this era. Strong detail can be found throughout from the texture of the rolling hillsides below to the mustachioed pauldron on the Duke's shoulder to the finer points of the intricate arms on the reverse. Undisturbed old cabinet toning covers the entire surface with a few winks of golden orange found in the finer protected areas. The only specimen yet certified but a finer example would be incredibly difficult to find and obtain. Sure to elevate the collection it enters. NGC MS-63.
