MEXICO. Empire of Iturbide. 8 Escudos, 1822-MoJM NGC VF Details--Bent, Cleaned.
Fr-59; KM-313.1. Type with proper spelling of "AUGUSTINUS". Augustin I Iturbide was proclaimed Emperor of Mexico shortly after the War of Independence, and confirmed by the congress of May 19, 1822. On June 21st of that year he was crowned as Augustin I. After ruling for less than a year, he was forced to abdicate on March 19th of 1823. The 8 Escudos was the only gold denomination minted in 1822. Historically significant, as this coin represents the first gold issue of Mexico post Spanish rule. The coin has sustained minor damage as indicated on the label, the cleaning is now retoning with the resulting surfaces having a pleasant overall appearance. Superior details for the net assigned grade, with a warm golden glow. NGC VF Details--Bent, Cleaned.

Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
